How long have you been playing disc golf?
20 years
How did you get your start in disc golf?
A friend of mine took me out years ago and I decided that I would give it a shot. We loved it and both of us have been hooked ever since.
What do you love most about the sport?
I love the Disc Golf community, competing at events, and meeting new people almost every week.
What makes disc golf better than the other sports you have played?
This sport has taught me a lot about myself. It’s taught me patience, humility, a better sense of community, and how to communicate to all walks of life. Disc Golf is amazing, you can compete your entire life …..i guess the real answer is that it’s an ageless game that I will be able to play (god willing) the rest of my life.
How do you approach a new course?
If I am just playing it casually with some fiends then I play it blind and just have fun, after all I’m there with my peeps and I seriously doubt we are trying to be too competitive. If I am playing it for competition then I research the course by finding it online, looking at who shot what (comparable to my PDGA rating), watch videos, go to DG course review and read the comments, and I ask friends that have played there before what they thought.
What motivates you to continually improve your game?
Failure motivates me. I am a competitive tournament player (or at least try to be). Nothing motivates me more in life than failure.
What do you do to stay focused playing in tourneys?
Hitting fairways and only worrying about the next shot; after all what’s done is done. I do not play any player. I play the course and push myself that way. Yes I am competing with others…..but once I get caught up in worrying about what they are doing I lose focus on what I need to do.
What’s your most memorable win?
B tier this year at Persimmon Ridge resort “Lets get back to Golf” tournament.
What’s your most memorable disc golf moment?
The very first time I played an event. It blew me away, I had no idea that tournaments were even a thing until a friend of mine pushed me to play one. I have never looked back since.
What are your top three favorite discs?
DX Flat Top Roc, Star Destroyer, KC Aviar
What are your top three courses you have played?
Burns Park Blue Course in North Little Rock, AR (because it was the first course I ever played), Horseshoe Canyon Ranch in Jasper, AR(no longer there….but it was epic), Blue Ribbon Pines in East Bethel , MN (the environment alone will blow you away)
If you could play any course in the world, which would it be?
Jarva in Sweden would be so awesome.
Who is your disc golf hero, and how were you influenced be him or her?
I do not have a disc golf hero. I have had several influences over the years. More on the disc golf organizing side of things than actual player influences. Too many to name and I don’t want anyone to feel slighted.
Whats in the bag?
Star Destroyer, Champ teebird, star roadrunner, champ leo3, star corvette, champ shryke, champ wraith, champ roc 3, dx flattop roc, star gator, KC aviar, and a dx aviar
What non-disc golf hobbies do you have?
I play a ton of poker. I actually cashed in a WSOP event last year.
Any superstitions you have before or during a round?
Remind myself to have fun and not take it too serious
What does #NoBadRounds mean to you?
It means every round should be fun ad to keep that in perspective. A bad round at the disc golf course beats any bad day at work.
